Google Profile SEO

While the world oogle’s over Twitter and Facebook, Google has been rolling out many applications that will help businesses with their online reputation, branding and SEO . The Google Profile is one of them.

In setting up a Google profile page you are virtually guaranteeing yourself a first page listing on Google, but to get the most search engine love out of your profile there are a few things that you can do to optimize your Google profile for maximum online presence.

About me:

  • If you’re branding yourself make sure and use your real name.
  • Use keywords to describe your business in the What I do section

Bio:

  • Write well targeted information about you or your business
  • You can add links here. Use keywords in anchor text to your sites
  • Add keywords that are relevant to the Interests section

My Links:

  • You can add as many links here as you want.
  • Make sure to use keywords (or your name) in the anchor text

Profile Url:

  • You have one chance to change it. Make sure it’s what you want

One of the best examples I found of a well optimized profile is Katz Web Design. Not only is he doing a great job of branding his name and company but he is also doing a fantastic job of incorporating keywords in to his profile that are relevant to his business.

If you’ve not yet created your Google profile then head over to Google and log in to your account. If you don’t have one, create one. Once logged in click the My Account link in the upper right hand corner of the page, select Profiles and start making yours today.

See you on Google!

Thanks for the mention! I've recently found that new profiles are being nofollowed by Google…too bad! Thankfully, they seem to have grandfathered in the existing profiles to be dofollow.

Sure thing! Your profile lends itself as being a great example. It's indexed, and ranked, has a good balance of targeted keywords relevant to your business and appears to really help your branding efforts. A lesson about the power of Google properties to be sure.

My profiles is around 90 days old and all links are follow so Google must have just started plopping the nofollow attribute onto the new ones.

I wonder if being verified has any weight on the accounts “realism” as to whether the attribute is used or not? – though wouldn't hang my hat on a statement like that without a little research, so purely conjecture on my part.

Great article, thank you. I looked at my profile and I didn't have any links to my site in the Bio section. I hope that helps my site more.
